Mrs. Stewart can be found teaching Algebra 2 on the 3rd floor of building 12.
Mrs. Stewart has been a teacher at Sylvan Hills for all of her 22 years of teaching. She started out as a student teacher, working under Ms Fitts at another school. After student-teaching here, she applied for and received a job teaching Algebra 1 at first.
Mrs. Stewart’s favorite unit to teach can be found in Algebra 2. It’s called Synthetic equations, and it occurs when oneĀ uses a shorthand method for dividingĀ a polynomial by a linear factor. It’s much simpler and faster than long division. In Algebra, Synthetic division is a method for manually performing Euclidean division of polynomials, with less writing and fewer calculations than long division.
“Mrs. Stewart has a stubborn way of delivering her teaching methods,” said Sophomore Madden Sword. “Once you get used to it, you realize that she is a great teacher and those stubborn, tough-love methods are necessary.”
Mrs. Steward sponsors the Military club. They meet on the 3rd of every month but they have not met much this year. She went into the military right after high school at age 17. She was airborne during her military services. Mrs. Stewart also has two kids who are in their mid 30s and are very successful. She comes from a full family of teachers.
