Sylvan Hills 2024-25 Concert Band performs their Spring Showcase in the Performing Arts Center May 8.
With the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the SHHS Band performed their final concert on May, 8. They performed Arabian Dances by Brian Balmages, Music from WICKED by Michael Sweeney/Stephen Schwartz, The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, and Swords Against The Sea by James L. Hosay. During the concert, there were 10 soloists:
Joseph Hill (12), Ethan Moten (12), Chody Sweeney (11), Hailey Middaugh (11), EJ Donahue (11), Riley McCauley (10), MJ Howell (10), Katie Griffin (11), Gabby Williams (10), and Trish Clark (12).
This year has been full of accomplishments for our band. As a recap of their year, here is all they have accomplished:
They received 1st divisions at Region Marching Assessment, Region Concert Assessment, Assessment Sight-Reading, and their State Concert Assessment. For those who do not know what the 1st divisions are in band, they are a Superior Rating. The ratings go from 1-5, 1 being the highest and 5 being the lowest.
They received an 89.5 at their Marching Assessment, which is a new record for the Sylvan Hills High School Band!
They also had a student teacher with them this year, Ms, Sharpe. She will be starting her teaching career this upcoming fall at the Wonderview School District as their k-12 music teacher. She was a part of both her High School band at Paragould and her College Band at UCA as a percussionist.
We would like to recognize all of the seniors in the SHHS Band that will be graduating this year. They have come a long way and have accomplished many things. We wish them good luck as they embark on their new journey into their lives. Once a Bear, always a Bear.
