A beloved senior tradition is coming to the Hillside! New this year is the opportunity for seniors to make their mark and paint their parking spots.
Bradley Tucker, Landon Stockton, and Kaden Ardison are the students responsible for pushing the change through to administration. All three of them are members of Student Voice, a club created to bridge the gap between staff and students and amplify students’ voices in the conversation of what goes on in school. Knowing that this has been a request of students for years, this is a fitting task for such a club.
“I’ve always thought it was cool to see individual ideas be put into their own spot. We’ve been trying to make it happen for a few years and we wanted to take the challenge to get it right,” says Landon Stockton, one of the students responsible for making it all possible.
Knowing that this had taken such a long time to come about, we asked Landon what the process they had to undergo to make the change. “It was a long process,” he replied, “We referenced Maumelle’s initiative and took inspiration from their plan and made it our own. We talked to Mr. Allen, coordinated and got approval from the art teachers. There were a lot of hurdles we had to jump over.”
Students around the school are excited for this new opportunity to express themselves and decorate our campus. Seniors across campus have been buzzing about their ideas since the announcement was made.
“I’ve thought of a couple of ideas,” replied Landon when he was asked about his own parking spot, “I think it would be cool to do a King Carson or Drake album cover.”
Seniors will have two opportunities to paint their spots: September 19th from 4:30-8:00 pm to September 20th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. In order to participate, they must create a plan for their design and submit it to Mrs. Harper with their $25 payment by this Friday, September 15th at 4 pm.
