Hillside Banner: What is Student Council?
Mrs.Collins:Student Council is a group of students that, put on different events at school like, we do pep rallies, we do homecoming, we do all these things that wanna just get the school involved and have more school spirit.They’re just really some great leaders of the school.
Banner: What is it like being in Student Council and do you recommend students and why?
Mrs.Collins:
As a student, it just is gonna get you more involved. You’re gonna get to know your teachers, you’re gonna get to know your peers and you just have other students that look up to you for certain things. you know, it just gives you a little bit more responsibility and it’s great to have on, you know, a transcript or, you know a resume for college or even for a job.We have limited spots, of course but I think if that’s something that you’re really passionate about, you really I mean, you like school, you like doing things around school, you want to make school more fun for yourself and for your peers, then I think student council would be a great place for a student like that, but it does come with a lot of responsibility.So you have to have time to do it.If it’s not gonna be a priority of yours, then it’s not going to benefit you or the student or their peers, because if you don’t have time for it, then it doesn’t work the way it’s designed to.
Banner: What are some of the events or activities done with Student Council?
Mrs.Collins:
So, like I said, we do homecoming, which is probably our biggest thing that we do, we do football homecoming and we do basketball homecoming.We put on pep rallies pretty frequently.We do a lot of other little things, actually we did a job fair, where we were gonna help with a college fair here and next week, actually, it’s just a lot of little things that you don’t see being done, but just randomly get done.It’s mostly student council.
Banner: What teachers run Student Council and is it difficult? If so what are some struggles y’all have?
Mrs.Collins: So, it’s, Miss Stuttard, and Miss Stewart this year who are doing student council, we are looking for somebody else.So if you if you know so many other teachers.So they want to do it, they can.I would say the biggest struggle and I don’t think it’s hard the group of kids that we have, they’re great kids but, there’s not a ton of supervision that comes with it. It’s really just I’m here to make sure that nobody dies, kind of like they’re gonna take care of themselves, they’re gonna take care of whatever we have to do that day and we don’t really have to worry much about that.:
Banner: Would you recommend Student Council and how could student council change someone’s life?
Mrs.Collins:
I mean, like I said, earlier, I would recommend student council to somebody who feels like they might need to find their place.You know, you have to have certain characteristics,to be able to take on that responsibility and take on all the work that comes with being in student council.
I think that Student council is great, but like I said, it’s just a lot of time that goes into it and that’s the biggest thing, that’s the biggest issue with the kids that we have that don’t end up staying is just they don’t have the time for it.You have to know what you’re getting yourself into, really, because you join and you have no time for it, then you’re wasting the time that you do have because it’s not gonna work, you know what I mean?
