Q: What got you into teaching?
A: I love art and had a high school art teacher named Mr. Smith that encouraged and inspired me.

When I was in the 3rd grade, I wanted to be a teacher. I went to college to major in fine arts. My college advisor convinced me to join ‘Art Ed’ during my junior year of college, and the rest was history.

Q: How long have you been teaching and where have you taught?
A: This is my tenth year teaching. I got my first real teaching job at Sheridan Middle School. I stayed there for 5 years but wanted to be closer to home, so I went to East End Middle School in the same district. I stayed there for 3 years before my sister got a new job at Sylvan Hills High School and heard they had an opening for an art teaching position. I took the job and have been a part of the Bears for 2 years now.

Q: What is your favorite unit to teach?
A: I thought I would enjoy painting with my classes most, but I’ve ended up really enjoying doing sculpture with the students. It is exciting, and I love watching the students create and design the projects with their own unique minds.

Q: What is something you would like us to know?
A: If you can’t find any inspiration just relax and get to work. Let the inspiration come to you. Never wait to start something.
