The students at Sylvan Hills High School dedicated themselves to enhancing our community during the recent March 19 service learning day, demonstrating an impressive commitment to civic engagement and teamwork. They participated actively in various community projects spread across multiple parks and local churches, rolling up their sleeves and getting to work. Among their tasks, they collected and removed trash to maintain clean spaces, trimmed branches to ensure safety and improved aesthetics, raked leaves to prepare the area for the changing seasons, and engaged in several other meaningful activities aimed at community betterment.

“Bettering the community made me feel productive and better about myself,” said  Junior Dayshaun Green.

Additionally, the students undertook a creative project at the high school where they painted birdhouses designed to provide safe and welcoming shelter for local birds, thus contributing to the ecosystem. Their efforts did not stop there; they also devoted time to visiting an elementary school where they read books to younger children, fostering a love for reading and sharing knowledge. Through these diverse activities, the students not only beautified their surroundings but also formed connections with younger generations, making a lasting impact on the community.
