Bears track compete in Meet of Champs

The Arkansas Activities Association, often times reffered to as the triple A, released their list of participants for Wednesday’s Meet of Champs. Sylvan Hills had eight student athletes listed. For the girls: Paris Wilburd competed. For the boys: Tyler Blakely, Nigel Casey, Marcus Heard, Kenan Morris, Josiah Rainey, Tyler Scott, and Joe Thompson competed.

Our lady bears who participated include Kortney Hood, Jayia Bradley, Ski Walker, and Rikyia Johnson in the 400 meter relay, Ski Walker in the triple jump, and Paris Wilburd in the 100 meter dash, long jump, and 100 meter hurdles as she placed 2nd in the hurdles with a time of 15.37 (first place was 15.36) 

Our boys who competed were Josiah Rainey, Joseph Thompson, Tyler Blakely, Antonio Reed, Marcus Heard, Calliyon Williams, Nigel Casey, LeDarius Anthony, Jackson Dowdy, Jackson Walker, Kortez Anthony, Tyler Scott, and Kenan Morris.

The boys team finished in 3rd place overall, only missing 2nd by 6 points which is the best the Bears have done in over a decade. Josiah Rainey took first place in the 100 meter dash, Thompson,Blakely,Casey and Rainey took first place in the 400 meter relay (breaking a school record), Kenan Morris placed second in the high jump, Tyler Scott placed second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump, and Antonio Reed placed fifth in the 800 meter run which set a new school record!!

Coach Collins had this to say afterwards about the event, “We competed yesterday at the Meet of Champs, the best of the best in Arkansas. Kenan Morris finished 4th in the high jump. Tyler Scott finished 3rd in long jump and 5th in the high jump. The relay team finished 6th. Paris Wilburd finished 4th in the 100 meter hurdles. Josiah Rainey can still claim to be the fastest man in Arkansas. He finished first in the 100 meter dash.”

“If you see them,” Coach Collins continued, “please congratulate them.”

Coach Hamilton had this to say afterwards about the event, “Very proud of all our track athletes.  Paris Wilburd will be taking her talents to Fayetteville next Wednesday and Thursday to compete in the Heptathlon.  She will be competing in the 100m Hurdles, Long Jump, Discus, 200m Dash, High Jump, Shot Put, and the 800m dash.”
