The Bears crushed the Vilonia Eagles 46-14 on Friday to move to a 2-0 start to the season.
This is the first 2-0 start for the Bears since 2016, making it nearly a decade later for this strong of a start from the Bears. In that 2016 season the Bears went on to start 6-0. Can the Bears replicate that success going forward?
The Bears were in control from the start, getting up 26-0 by the end of the first quarter. Then the Bears continued to dominate the first half almost producing a 40-0 shutout by halftime but Vilonia got into the end zone as time ran out to bring the score to 40-7 at halftime.
In the second half a large portion of the time was just running the clock out to finish out the game. Each team scored once in the second half leading to the final score of 46-14.
The Bears were very well-rounded, everyone was contributing with 5 different players taking a trip into the end zone. Tyler Hampton, Isaiah Howell, Jeremiah Carey, Tyler Blakely, and Jackson Walker all reached the end zone against Vilonia. The total touchdown number for the Bears was 7.
Quarterback Tyler Hampton had 3 touchdown passes as well a pair of touchdowns on the ground. He was very accurate in this game, going 20/24 on passes, which is an 83% completion rate.
The running backs looked great as well. Isaiah Howell had 10 rushes for 129 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiah Carry scored twice, once on a rushing attempt and the other was a reception for a touchdown.
Two of the receivers got into the end zone. Tyler Blakely had 4 receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Walker caught the ball 5 times for 81 yards a touchdown.
The defense deserves a shout-out too, as they held the Eagles offense to just 14 points throughout the game.
The Bears are set to take on the Russellville Cyclones this Friday, September 12 at home for their week three matchup looking to continue their great start.
