Coming into this school year I, myself, had very low expectations of the food here at Sylvan Hills High because of the bar that was set for it last year. Normally at lunch, I would just stick to what I brought from home or the normal pizza and fries. But this one day here is what inspired me to write this story.
I had walked into the cafeteria planning to get the pizza and fries but something on the other side of the lunch lines looked very good, so I hopped in the other line. They had some new food, which that day was Chicken Alfredo with a breadstick and mixed vegetables. Now, at first, I was very suspicious of it, because I’ve never had a meal like this from the school. So I took my first bite and was blown away to another planet. After that day, anytime I heard there was something new on the menu, I was in the specialty line.
Last year, to me personally, the food options and flavors were very underwhelming so I was very shocked to have enjoyed one of the “special lunches” on that fateful day, and I eagerly awaited for the next “special lunch” to see if it would continue to surprise me or dip back down into the standards of the previous years. To my surprise the lunches continued to be very good, and I even found myself looking forward to trying the new lunches quite often.
I especially enjoyed the philly cheese steaks, the BBQ chicken paired with greens and cornbread, and as I mentioned before the alfredo pasta. The joy I got from realizing we finally had good lunch options made me very ecstatic. Many of my friends and I were very overjoyed to go to lunch to see what the new surprise special of the day was.
I don’t know why the food this year was so much better compared to the previous years, but I do know that whatever inspired the change I hope it keeps going, resulting in us getting more delicious meals for lunch. Overall the new lunch experience has left a positive influence on me and those I hang around with, so I know I’m not the only one who notices the drastic positive change in the lunches.
Not only are the new lunches more delicious, they are still nutritious, and there is a good variety of them ranging from the normal pizza and fries to Pasta and Chicken. Some key differences in the food this year compared to last year is the appearance. In previous years the food looked old, thrown together, and just looked like dry leftovers that were thrown in the microwave to warm up a little before eating. But this year the food actually looks well put together, fresh, vibrant, and it’s always the nice warm temperature that you normally prefer your food at. Ultimately, it seems to me, that the lunch experience as a whole has improved here at Sylvan Hills High, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what’s next on the menu.
