Humans of the Hillside- Teleah Connors

Teleah Connors, who you most likely have seen perform with the band waving her flag around as she is the captain of the color guard, is more than just a captain. She is a passionate student who strives to bring balance in her school and outside life.

It all started with band for Connors. She joined in sixth grade and she built an attachment to it. “Even though there are a lot of things that make me feel a certain way about it, the bond I grew is what made me stay” Connors said.

What she truly fell in love with was color guard. In ninth grade she was offered the opportunity to try out for the team and she decided to audition with one of her friends and they both made it. That summer she went to a color guard camp and that’s what made her fall in love with the art of the flag. “Color guard is one of the major reasons why I have stayed in band and how it gave me so much responsibilities while also making me work harder” Connors said.

She emphasized how color guard is an addition to the band, and how dancing and moving a flag in a timely and precise manner and playing an instrument are two completely different things. The instruments are the sound of the art, while the color guard is the visual component of the art.

Connors said she enjoys the sense of family the groups have brought her. She believes she was hardworking before, but band and color guard pushed her to mature and manage her time more effectively.

When everything else is piling on stress, she escapes to archery. While band and color guard add on responsibilities, archery helps her feel more laid back than those other activities.

Connor’s passions don’t end at extracurricular activities. Staying strong in her faith while also not falling behind in school with her grades is something she takes very seriously. She also says that she is passionate about making sure she is able to manage life/relationships while not completely disregarding school.

Her goals for this year are to keep her grades up for the rest of her senior year, while also soaking up every moment that the rest of the year brings before she leaves. After high school, Teleah plans to attend University of Central Arkansas and major in radiography.
