Today’s spotlight is on Lekeya Mcgee, Sylvan Hills’ General Secretary and
one of the building’s most important and loved members of our community.
Mcgee served our country as an Air Force medic working in dental. She was
deployed to Germany for humanitarian support. The work of her and her
peers served as an inspiration to those around them.

Veteran’s Day Perspective
When asked her perspective on Veterans’ Day, Mcgee explained how her
views have differed now that she has experienced the civilian side of the
world. She went on to express her gratitude for those around her and the
opportunities life has provided her. She emphasised her thankfulness for the
strength and endurance her family and friends showed through the mental
battles and sacrifices they made in her absence.

How Military Experience Influences Mcgee’s work
Mcgee uses lessons from the military as a model and inspiration for her
work in the school. She approaches her day-to-day work  with discipline, respect,
and an eye for teamwork. Students and staff notice her attention to the people around
her, along with a consistent and positive daily work ethic.

Advice or Message for Students
When asked what advice she feels is important for the students to hear,
Mcgee strongly expressed an urge for encouraging kids to get involved in the
school and community. She stated,” Everything you do now determines your
future, do you want to regret today’s choices in 10 years?”.

Appreciating Service
Mcgee is a such valued member of the Hillside, making the front office a
welcoming and supportive place. Students and Staff appreciate all the work
she and Veterans around our campus put in daily to help us rise as
individuals. Your service, dedication, and captivating impact does not go
unnoticed.
