Students and staff on the second-floor history hall received a meaningful surprise this morning when Coach Todd Romaine stopped by campus unannounced to celebrate Hawaiian Shirt Day, today’s dress-up day for Spirit Week.
Known for his collection of bright, festive Hawaiian shirts, Romaine has been away from school this year while undergoing cancer treatment but made a special visit to reconnect with the people who have supported him during his time away.
Romaine, accompanied with his wife Wendy, made time for a group of supporters who gathered in Mr. Harper’s room to welcome him back. The group chatted, caught up, and snapped a photo with Romaine, who arrived in one of his signature winter holiday-themed Hawaiian shirts.
“Seeing him walk down the hallway again was really exciting,” Ms. Cole said. “His heart for kids is inspiring.”
Romaine shared that he is scheduled for another surgery on December 19 and is hopeful about returning full-time by January 5.
“It was nice to be in the halls again,” Romaine said. “I miss it so bad! We have the best students. The whole Hawaiian shirt theme made me want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!”
Coach Romaine didn’t stay long, but for the students and teachers who saw him today, the visit was all the motivation they needed to count down to his return.
