Junior Jer’Leah Davis achieved a major milestone in her wrestling career this past Valentine’s day by earning first seat in the wrestling bracket for state tournament. After years of dedication and hard work, Davis’ victory marked an important moment not only for her season, but for the goals she has been chasing since her freshman year.

There are a total of eight seats for the girls’ state wrestling bracket. They are decided 1-4 into North and South. Sylvan Hills fits in the South Bracket. Davis made top seed for the South bracket.

“This has been my goal since freshman year,” Davis said. “This win State would mean so much to me.”

Davis talked about the discipline it takes, especially when it comes to maintaining weight classes and setting personal performance goals. She explained that the journey was not easy and required consistent training, focus, and self-motivation.

“It took a lot of hard work to get to where I am now,” she said.

As a hands-on, physically demanding sport, wrestling challenges athletes both mentally and physically — something Davis has embraced throughout her high school career.

Davis came up short at state. She went 2-0 the first day. The second day she wrestled three times, going 2-1, and finishing second in the state.
