Both the boys and girls soccer teams started the season off to a slow start. Both teams started 1-5-1. With both having their only win against Parkview.
For the boys, Senior, Josiel Galvan explains how the slow start was actually good for the team because they played the best teams early on. “I feel like those tough games really helped us a lot and the way we play” said Galvan.
As of late, both teams have been excellent since their slow starts. The boys are 7-1 in their last 8 games, including a huge win against Little Rock Christian, which was the first time the Bears beat them in 20+ years. In the girls last 7 games they are 6-1.
“Each game we improve a lot on keeping the ball and controlling possession, which is a big reason for the wins.” said Galvan, talking about the factors that played into the mid season push.
For the Girls, Senior Haley Belin talked about how the change in play comes from the extra work in practice. “I think that everything has been turned around at practice where we have been challenging ourselves and pushing ourselves to work harder and be more creative.” said Belin.
Belin believes that if the team continues the work ethic they currently have then they can keep winning more games.
