This past Tuesday, October 28, Sylvan Hills High School had a fundraiser for choir called “A Haunted House on the Hillside.” The main goal for the fundraiser was to raise money for the choir department. Ms.Harris and Ms.Wilson, the choir teachers, sponsored the event. This year is the 4th year they have been doing this.
The Haunted House was again located in the old building. This year they wanted it bigger, so they added new things like Ghost Pirates, Werewolf Forest, Purge, and The Shining Hotel. All the rooms that were in the haunted house were designed by students because they got to come up with all the room ideas.
The choir took precautions when doing this event so all would be safe. They had security at entrances and exits, some of the students’ parents volunteered to watch the rooms for safety, and they had guides so people could know where they needed to go. They adjusted the scare factor for young children by toning down some of the jumpscares and scary noises and images.
There were 90 student volunteers who set up the hallways and rooms. It took weeks to prepare and get together all of the items and furniture for the rooms. Then they had a crew on sound effects. It was taken down a day after, so it would be like they were never there.
