As college prices continue to rise, students at Sylvan Hills High School are starting to think more about how they will pay for college in the future. With tuition and other expenses becoming more expensive every year, many students are looking for ways to save money and prepare early.
One way students are getting help is through scholarships and financial aid. Some students are already searching for scholarships and filling out the FAFSA to help cover costs.
“I’ve been applying to every scholarship I can find because college is really expensive,” sophomore Daveon Connors said.
Counselors at the school are also helping students understand what options they have and how to apply for financial aid. Other students are choosing to work part-time jobs so they can start saving money now. Sophomore Kohen Orange said having a job helps him feel more prepared for the future.
“I have a job after school so I can save money now instead of worrying about it later,” Orange
said.
Students say working now can help them avoid taking on too much debt after graduation.
Some students are also thinking about attending community college first because it costs less
than a four-year university. Others are considering colleges that offer better scholarships or
lower tuition. Ms. Holladay, a counselor at Sylvan Hills, said there are many different options for students.
“We try to help students find the best plan for them and their future,” Holladay said.
Overall, Sylvan Hills students are trying different ways to prepare for the cost of college.
Whether it is through scholarships, jobs, or careful planning, many students are working hard now so they can have more opportunities after high school.
