At Sylvan Hills High School, the Interact Club is making a difference. As California battles devastating wildfires, leaving families displaced and communities in ashes, the Interact Club has launched a heartfelt fundraising drive to support the American Red Cross in its relief efforts.
The club, known for its commitment to community service, recognized the urgent need for action when news of the wildfires reached their campus. “We couldn’t just stand by and do nothing,” said club president KaMya Tackett. “We knew we had to help, and the Red Cross is doing incredible work to provide emergency shelter, food, and medical assistance to those affected.”
The fundraising drive, titled “Hope for California: Together We Rebuild,” kicks off this week and invites students, staff, and the Sylvan Hills community to come together for a vital cause.
“Every dollar counts,” said Interact Club member Lauryn Ricks. “Even a small contribution can make a big impact on someone who’s lost everything.”
The club has set an ambitious goal of raising $2,500, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross to help provide essentials like shelter, meals, and medical care.
“I’m so proud of our students,” said faculty sponsor Mrs. Kristy Brasfield. “They’ve shown incredible empathy and leadership. This fundraiser not only supports a vital cause but also teaches our students the power of community and service.”
As the drive gains momentum, the Interact Club hopes their efforts inspire others to join the cause. “This is about more than just raising money,” KaMya Tackett shared. “It’s about showing people in California that even though we’re miles away, we care about them, and we’re here to help rebuild their lives.”
