In the years of 2026 and 2027, Sylvan Hills teacher Bailey Runkle is leading an educational trip to Europe. These trips are available to any current Sylvan Hills student, they are given the opportunity to not only go sightseeing, but to gain real world experiences. This trip is to help them build their confidence as they make the journey to being a young adult, gain independence, and grow into a cultured and educated young adult.
In the summer of 2027, there will be an eight day trip to Scotland and Ireland. There are no exact dates announced just yet, but the expected dates are July 21, 2027 – July 28, 2027.
The students will get the opportunity to see the lands that were once home to ancient Celtic and Gaelic tribes, Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the famous towering spire of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, old architecture and arts in Belfast, and so much more fascinating history from old Europe.
The tours will be led by full time licensed local guides who will take the students through engaging experiences to get them involved in the history they have spent years reading about in books. These experiences will make those pictures they have looked at their whole lives come to reality.
Students will have round-trip flights, comfortable transportation, 6 overnight stays in hotels, and European meals daily. They will get first hand experience to all cultures including food, people, languages, ways of life, art, and so much more. Students will be making connections the entire trip, from the moment they sign up and find people on social media who will also be attending, to meeting new people in each country, to the very end of the trip where they get to talk about their experiences with everyone they made memories with.
Sylvan Hills has partnered with EF tours in order to make this whole thing happen. EF is determined to give high school students the opportunity to further their education through travel. They want to give them the chance to open up their minds and learn all they can about the world outside of their homes. As little kids they dream of getting to see and experience their favorite fairy tales and live how their favorite characters got to, EF is here to make their dreams come true. They offer the best experiences at the lowest prices, they are fully accredited so you earn credit while on tour (talk to Bailey Runkle for more information), fully committed to the students’ safety, and they provide the best tour guides in order to give the students the best experiences they can have.
The deadline to sign up for the 2026 trip is March 20th, 2026. The deadline to sign up for the 2027 trip is April 2nd, 2027.
