Sylvan Hills High School is preparing for its spring theatrical production, Murder on the Orient Express, and students from all grade levels are encouraged to audition. Tryouts will take place Monday and Tuesday in the Performing Arts Center, room 14-115, with Mr. Lewis directing the production.
The spring play serves as an important fundraiser for the Theatre Department, helping support future shows and allowing students to attend events such as the Thespian Festival. This year’s production follows the famous mystery in which a detective must solve the murder of a wealthy American tycoon aboard the Orient Express.
According to Mr. Lewis, the show was selected after students expressed interest in tackling something different from the department’s original plan. He added that auditions are meant to be an enjoyable experience. Expectations are simple—come, have fun, and if you want to try an accent, go for it.
For many students, the production offers a chance to learn and grow. Junior Joel Fernandez said he is eager for auditions and hopes to gain more experience by participating in the play. Fellow student Alyssa Harsch shared that, although she finds auditions challenging, she hopes taking part in the show will help her build stronger public speaking skills.
With a demanding production ahead, the Theatre Department is excited to begin bringing the story to life, from casting to set building. The cast list is expected to be posted on Friday.
